One of the chief benefits of the original Oxy-Gen formula is its ability to help keep cholesterol levels healthy. According to the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES III), about 20 percent of U.S. adults had high serum cholesterol levels. Only 13 percent or less of men 20–44 years of age have high serum cholesterol levels compared with more than 20 percent of men in the two older age groups. About 10 percent or less of women 20–44 years of age have high serum cholesterol levels compared with more than 30 percent of women in the two older age group.

This represents a tremendous financial boon for the phamaceutical industry, With 1 in 5 Americans having high serum cholesterol levels, the giant drug corporations have leapt into action with a barrage of drugs to take advantage of this huge market, and they are reaping equally huge profits. Slick television advertising urging consumers to "ask your doctor" is everywhere, and many studies show that these drugs can be effective. While these ads claim to be "informational", they are nothing more than naked promotion that minimizes the risks and side effects.
And what these ad campaigns don't tell the public is that there are natural substances that work equally well (or better), and don't carry the risks, side effects, and high prices of these expensive drugs.
The most common of these cholesterol-lowering drugs are the statin drugs. These drugs inhibit the development of a substance needed to create cholesterol in the liver, and may also help your body re-absorb cholesterol already in the bloodstream. In this regard, statins work very well in controlling serum cholesterol. However, these results come with a price, and many people experience muscle pain and gastro-intestinal problems like nausea, diarrhea, and constipation. According to the Mayo Clinic, there are potentially much more serious side effects from this family of drugs. Statins can cause elevated enzymes in the liver, which is potentially very dangerous because there are no overt symptoms of this condition. Statins can also cause a condition called statin myopathy, in which muscle tissue breaks down and releases a protein called myoglobin into the bloodstream, which can result in kidney damage, and in severe cases, kidney failure and death.
But that's not all. In a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, statins not only lowered cholesterol, they also lowered serum levels of important antioxidants like vitamin E. The study found that vitamin E dropped 16%, beta carotene dropped 20%, and coenzyme Q10 dropped a whopping 22%! These antioxidants are crucial to proper heart function and health, and without them, damage can occur to the cell walls and even genetic material within the cells, leading to heart damage and cancers. This study also found that statins can also increase serum insulin levels, leading to a condition called insulin resistance, a known risk factor for the development of diabetes and heart disease.

The good news is that one of the main ingredients in the original Oxy-Gen formula actually delivers superior results to statin drugs, without the risks and side effects. In a study comparing Pravachol (pravastatin) to octacosanol, Pravachol lowered LDL-cholesterol (or "bad" cholesterol) levels 15.6%, while octacosanol lowered LDL-cholesterol by 19.3%. Pravachol lowered total cholesterol 11.8%, while octacosanol lowered total cholesterol 13.9%.

Pravachol had no effect on triglycerides, which are fats from food in the bloodstream, nor did it have any effect on HDL (or "good") cholesterol. But octacosanol lowered triglycerides by 14%, and improved the good HDL-cholesterol by 18%!

To reduce your risk of heart disease and stroke, you need to reduce platelet aggregation in your bloodstream. This study demonstrated that octacosanol was superior in inhibiting platelet aggregation, and actually protected the LDL from being damaged by oxidation. Oxidative stress occurs when the level of oxidants in a system exceed the capacity of the antioxidants to detoxify them. Statin drugs reduce the levels of antioxidants in the bloodstream, and the result is oxidative damage to macromolecules, thus harming the cell or tissue. Oxidized LDL cholesterol is the most damaging form for the cells of your body.

The overall ratio of "good cholesterol" to "bad cholesterol" is the key statistic.
Pravastatin lowered the ratio of total cholesterol 15%, while octacosanol lowered this critical ratio 25%!

When you compare the results of octacosanol versus statin drugs, octacosanol is the clear winner. Factor in the serious health risks associated with these drugs, and octacosanol stands head and shoulders above statins. The side effects of Baycol (cerivastatin) were so frequent and severe that it was removed from the market. These side effects included kidney failure, fatal in some cases, as well as gastro-intestinal problems, muscle and joint pain, hepatitis, jaundice, and anemia.

No serious side effects have ever been reported from octacosanol. There has never been a reported overdose, and octacosanol is only known to interact with one drug, carbidopa-levodopa, used in patients with Parkinson's disease.

Now consider the price. Statin drugs typically cost 4 to 5 times the cost of Oxy-Gen Capsules! When you compare effectiveness, safety, and price, Oxy-Gen is the clear winner!
